Reminder to all competitors:
Because they posted this exercise on crossfit.com recently, there's always a chance that split snatches may be in the Open WODs.
Get your butts in the gym and learn this new movement.

I spent the morning coaching the new split snatch and watched four people get a higher snatch 1RM than with their regular snatch form.
What the?!?!?!?
Watch the attached Split Snatch video and come in prepared to have a good time learning something new!

Row 500m
1:39
Split Snatch Practice
105-115-120-125-125
Stopped at 125 today. Trying to protect a knee injury and didn't want to push it on a new movement. Definitely worth coming in to the gym today.
Stayed around afterward and did 5 muscle-ups. I am coming for you Chad. Just very slowly.

I love this movement! I think it flows better than regular snatch. For me anyways.

500m row: 1:51 POINT 8 (as to differentiate from Laura K's 1:51 POINT 5!) NOT that I'm competitive at all.... ;-)
That row was a PR for me.
Split snatch: 33-53-63-63-73-83(f)-78
78 lbs equals my 1RM for regular snatch form.

Row 1.51.5 (yes the .5 matters) new PR
33-53-63-73-73-83(f)-78
78 is 5 lbs more than snatch PR.
Fun class.

Ran out of time. I know I can get over 200.
Good coaching Bob.

I much prefer the split. Feels way more comfortable.

first of all.. i really like the split snatch! I did my previous PR of 83lbs and then failed on 93 :( thank you Sarah for talking me into taking some weight off and doing one more so that i could end on a good note!!!
Also.. i killed my old 500m PR today.. went from like 2:14 something i think to 1:54. i maintained a 1:42-1:47 pace for the first 280 meters approximately and then LOST MY MIND towards the end! definitely fun though!! great work guys!!
