Zone Tip #5
Get in the habit of eating sandwiches without bread. Use a large lettuce leaf or a fork and knife or fingers. If you have to use bread, put all the ingredients on one slice and throw the other piece away. The carbohydrates (and calories) from bread will slow you down and are very difficult to eliminate in a short period of time. Do you often wonder why it is so easy to gain weight, but it is so hard to lose weight? Bread turns to sugar in your mouth (thanks to the enzymes in your saliva). And sugar equals more insulin. This is the same for puffed rice, cereal, corn, crackers, etc. Try to get most of your carb blocks from vegetables and fruit.

I know everyone hates the heat, but I love it! After six years in Colorado Springs, and 8 years in New England, I am finally starting to thaw the snow and wind chill factor off my bones! Yes, we've been in Tulsa for almost five years; but there have been a few months of freezing temps here the last few years...it's nice to be able to swim and sunbathe even after dinner.
